Police Arrest Man, 24, With Alleged Locally Made Gun At Ogunmokun Under Bridge

Operatives of the Command Tactical Squad 1, State Headquarters, Ikeja, have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against crime in Lagos State with the arrest of a 24-year-old man, Segun Alani, over alleged involvement in unlawful society and alleged unlawful possession of a firearm.

The suspect was arrested on August 10, 2026, at about 1800 hours, at Ogunmokun under the bridge, Mushin area of Lagos. Police described the area as a notorious black spot that has been under close surveillance due to repeated reports of criminal activities.

According to Police sources, the suspect, Segun Alani, and others now at large, were allegedly sighted at the notorious spot where they were suspected to have gathered for unlawful purposes. The swift intervention of the Tactical Squad led to the arrest of Alani, while other members of the group fled and are still at large.

During a search at the scene, operatives allegedly recovered one locally made cut-to-size single barrel gun from the suspect which he could not give a satisfactory account of how he came about it. The recovery was described as a significant success in the Command’s ongoing mop-up of illegal arms in the Mushin axis.

 

In Count One, the Police alleged that the defendant and others now at large, on the said date, time and place within the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst themselves to commit felony to wit unlawful society, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count Two alleged that the defendant and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, did have in his possession one locally made cut-to-size single barrel gun which he could not give a satisfactory account of, an offence punishable under Section 330 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The suspect was arraigned before Magistrate Mr. L.A Owolabi, while SP Josephine Ihkayere appeared as prosecutor. The plea of the defendant was not taken.

The court ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody at the Correctional Center, Kirikiri Town, Lagos, pending the outcome of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, Lagos State Ministry of Justice.

The operation was led by SP Banti Adamu, Officer in Charge of Command Tactical Squad, State Headquarters, Ikeja, with Inspector Ihiator Emmanuel as the Investigating Police Officer. The case file has been forwarded to the ICT Prosecutor’s Office, Ogba, and the DPP for further advice.

The Lagos State Police Command has been praised by residents of Ogunmokun and Mushin for its renewed vigour in raiding notorious black spots and restoring confidence in the area. The Command assured that it will continue to sustain the offensive against unlawful societies and illegal possession of firearms across the state.

Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the other suspects now at large, while investigation continues.

The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a Court of competent jurisdiction.
