Police Intelligence team from the Lagos State Command has commenced investigations over the manner two staff of electricity distribution company, EKEDC, who were sent to repair a transformer by the management, were electrocuted in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the staff, identified as Umaru and Sunday Awaruwa, were sent to the Obalende area of Lagos Island on 20th May, 2023, to repair a transformer and while they were there, the light was switched on from the office and they eventually lost their lives due to electrocution.
The incident was reported to the Lion Building Division of the State Police Command on May 20, 2023, by a fellow EKEDC worker.
According to Police sources, one of the victims, Umaru, 51, was digging to locate a faulty transformer cable when he got electrocuted and in an attempt to rescue him, his colleague, Sunday Awaruwa, 48, also got electrocuted.
The Police were contacted and they arrived at the scene, rescued the victims, and rushed them to the Lagos Island General Hospital. But before the doctors would attend to them,  they were already dead and the doctors merely confirmed them dead.
The remains of the deceased were deposited at the IDH mortuary in Yaba for autopsy report while the Police have started investigations to unravel those who switched on the light while repair work was going on.
Some of the staff have expressed anger and shock over what happened and asked the Police to carry out thorough investigation to fish out those behind the dastardly act that led to the death of the victims.
One of the staff revealed that the standard practice is that when there is repair on transformer cables, the management will switch off the light in that particular area and wondered why the light was switched on whereas the management knew work was going on there.
