Police Bust Pipeline Vandals, Seize Trucks, Arrest Over 60

The police have arrested and paraded over 60 suspected criminals including  NNPC pipeline vandals in Lagos. The police also recovered two 30m litre petrol tankers, cache of arms and hard drugs worth millions of Naira in various areas of Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects were paraded by the Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal at the State Command, Ikeja, Lagos.

The police gave the vandals names as Chibuzor Nwoko, 25, Amuda Taoreed, 37 (driver) Abdulrazaq, 47, Olagunju Nurudeen, 27 and Adedeji Adeshina.

The police boss hinted that the success achieved was as a result of proactive efforts of the officers of the command. Based on information received and analysed by the intelligence arm of the Command, that the suspects were vandalising NNPC pipeline at Ebule-Egba area of Lagos. He said that in order to prevent economic sabotage and possible outbreak of fire, the command dispatched the Rapid Response Squad, RRS decoy team to the scene.

Edgal said at the scene, the suspects had already damaged the pipes and were already siphoning petrol from the pipes into tankers before they were rounded up. In the process the police recovered 33,000 litres of petroleum products, tanker trucks without registration number plates, one Mahindra motorcycle with NNPC plate number.

CP Edgal said after the suspects were arrested, the NNPC maintainace unit was contacted to repair and stop the leakages while the police and the fire service men were on standby to protect lives and properties. He urged the members of the public to always watch out for vandals and give information about their activities to the security agents as lives saved may be that of their relations or friends. He said the suspects will be charged to court soon.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that other suspected criminal elements were also arrested and paraded by CP Edgal. Those paraded were suspected cultists, drug dealers, illegal firearms possessors, traffic robbers amongst others.

Edgal said the successes recorded were based on the police partnership with the public who had confidence in the police serving in the State. He assured the public that the Police will continue to do their best to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties in the State.
