The police in Lagos foiled attempts by angry cult members who attacked officers and had planned to set the station on fire before they were repelled.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ikorodu area of Lagos where the police station was located.
The police also foiled the operation of the gang who wanted to retaliate by attempting to burn down the station as three suspects of the gang were arrested after the failed attempt.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, on behalf of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
DSP Bala said that on 18th March, 2019 at about 1730hrs following a tip off, a team of policemen on surveillance at Adama community in Ikorodu, raided a den of cultists who specialised in ritual murder and kidnapping for ritual purposes.
Elkana stated that on sighting the police, the gang opened fire and equally used some of their hostages as human shields to escape.
During the operation that lasted for about one hour, two Police Officers were injured and three suspects were arrested; namely Ahmed Hassan, Daniel Enyin and Olaniran Alium. One Hadiyat Sikiru (F) 18yrs, an SS1 Student was hit by a stray bullet.
According to DSP Elkana, the gang mobilised themselves and attempted a deadly attack on the Police Station at Imota Division but met with stiff resistance from the gallant officers on duty.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu mni, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Criminal Investigation, Panti, to take over the case for in-depth investigation.
