Police Inspector Battered While Attempting To Arrest Indian Hemp Smokers

A Police Inspector, Endurance Aghedo, attached to the Iba Division of the Lagos State Command, had a nasty experience after he went to a smoking joint to arrest Indian hemp smokers in order to allegedly extort money from them but he received serious beating and got injured in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at a notorious joint in Iba area after other officers fled.
Five suspects behind the attack on Inspector Aghedo has been arrested for conspiracy and assault and remanded in custody over their conduct.
The suspects, Daniel Akwue, 24, Michael Owoni, 26, John Orji, 29, Chukwuma Okonkwo, 30 and Chinonso Godwin, 24, were alleged to have obstructed the Police team from performing their lawful duty and assaulted the victim, Aghedo.
However, after the attack, the Police reinforced and arrested the suspects.
They were later charged before the Ogba Magistrates for the alleged offence.
They pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Evelyn, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. M. A. Adegbaye, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The matter was adjourned till 22nd March, 2023, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
