A police inspector, Mr. Simon Yaduma, narrowly escaped death after he went to a black spot to arrest suspected criminals in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects disarmed the police officer, used broken bottles to inflict injuries on his body and resisted arrest.
The incident happened at a well known black spot located at Pipeline Street in Ilasamaja area of Lagos.
It was gathered that the hoodlums had turned the place into a sort of hideout where all sorts of criminal elements assembled to drink, smoke hard drugs and plan attacks before the police went there and the criminals attacked them.
The police inspector, Yaduma was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where the doctors were battling to save his life because of the depth of the injury.
The other police officers who went to the scene were forced to beat a retreat to the station before the DPO mobilised more officers to scene but by then the suspects had escaped.
However, the police later arrested one of the suspects, Mr. Yemi Adenuga, who was said to be the brain behind the attack on the victim.
He was charged before Ogba Magistrates court for attempted murder and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace in the area.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Edet Ekadu informed the court that the defendant and other suspects now at large allegedly committed the offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Layinka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.
The matter was adjourned till 26th July, 2018.
P.M.EXPRESS scooped that the police have commenced manhunt for the other suspects but they were said to have got wind about the plan of the police plan and temporarily relocated to unknown areas to evade arrest.
