A Police Inspector, Adetukasi Toyin, attached to Idimu Division in Lagos escaped death after he went to effect arrest but the suspect raised alarm and mistook him for a  thief.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Pastor Olabiyi Street off Governor’s Road in Ikotun, Lagos where he had gone to arrest the suspect, Olaide Abideen.
It took the intervention of the neighbours to save the Police Inspector but before then he had received some beating and got injured.
When he went back to the police station and reported what happened to the DPO, other officers were mobilised. They arrested Abideen and detained him at the police station.
It was gathered that the suspect told the police that he thought that Inspector Toyin was a thief which made him to raise alarm and he was attacked.
However, the police charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for assault.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector G. Simon, did not oppose his bail but asked the court for a date for hearing.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni, granted Abideen bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter till 19th December, 2018.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Abideen, 42, deliberately put the life of Toyin on the line. It was said that when the defendant was shown the Police ID card, he collected it from Toyin raised alarm and he was attacked.
He was said to have also attacked the complainant, one Mrs Rachael Solagbade, with iron to escape arrest.
