CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

The Police at Ikotun Division of the Lagos State Command displayed gallantry on Thursday after they engaged over 100 notorious armed bandits popularly known as ‘Million Robbers’ and repelled their operations.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Governor’s Road in Ikotun at about1.30pm where the robbers had assembled and were robbing both houses and shop owners while shooting sporadically.

It was gathered that the information got to the DPO, CSP Abubakar Tsav, who quickly mobilized few officers led by one O. Augustines and they moved to the area. There was serious exchange of gun fire as the robbers dared the Police.
However, with the Police applying superior intelligence and strategy, they were able to repel, dislodge them and they fled.
During the exchange of gun fire, one of robbers was shot down but was still alive. Five of them were arrested while the other suspects escaped and were now at large.
The suspects were detained at the Ikotun Police Division while the injured robber was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
When P.M.EXPRESS correspondent visited the station, the DPO was not around to comment on the matter.
However, police sources confirmed the incident as residents trooped to the station to commend the Police for their bravery.

Some of the residents who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS expressed surprise that the police could display such courage to confront the robbers and repel them despite the fact that the robbers outnumbered them.
The residents also urged the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, to consider increasing the number of police officers in the Division because of the volatile nature of Ikotun and its environs.
It was gathered that the ‘Million Robbers’ recently regrouped and went from place to place to rob innocent people both during the day and at night unchallenged until the incident happened and the police at Ikotun Division finally demystified them on Thursday.
