Detectives from Alagbon in Ikoyi have uncovered how a Police Inspector, Okoi Etim and his team secretly opened a N15,000 weekly bribe register at various hotels in Badagry area of Lagos, without the knowledge of the Area Commander.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the register had been existing for the past six years before the new Area Commander, Hope Okafor took over and started getting rid of bad eggs in the Command. This exercise has landed Etim in trouble.
It was gathered that Etim and his team were obtaining between the sum of N10,000 to N15,000 weekly, and there were about 1,200 hotels in the whole of Badagry area who were forced to register and be paying the money. Some of the hotels which were paying the money were Mucky, Santana Well Wood and many others. Before their arrest, Etim and his team obtained the money and signed the register with their phone numbers indicating that they have received the money from the hoteliers.
It was gathered that when the Area Commander, Okafor resumed two months ago, she discouraged such practices but Etim secretly continued with the arrangement, he was given marked N60,000 and arrested.
P.M.EXPRESS had gathered that Etim reportedly lied to the hotel owners by using the name of the Area Commander, ACP Hope Okafor to extort N60,000 each from them to enable them operate in the area peacefully.
However, it turned out that his lies turned against him as the hotel association trapped him with marked money.
Etim got trapped following a petition to the Deputy Inspector General of Police DIG, at Abuja over his conduct in Badagry area. P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the petitioners alleged that Etim and his team have been extorting the hoteliers for over six years using intimidation and harassment. He is currently detained at Force Criminal Investigation Intelligent Department, FCIID Alagbon Annex in Ikoyi, Lagos.
