The reformation and the change mantra in the Nigerian Police seems to be gathering momentum from what happened recently at the Area M Police Command, Idimu in Lagos State.
The Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Austines Akika and some of his officers reportedly rejected a N2 million bribe offer from some suspects’ relations who wanted to induce them so they could withdraw charges against those suspects.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that at a point, Akika warned the officers and threatened to arrest those suspects’ relations and prosecute them if they ever repeat their attempts to pervert the course of justice.
The incidence of rejecting the money have become a subject of discussion within the Command and residents who expressed surprise over it.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that one of the wives of the suspects was overheard saying “why are these officers proving difficult? Do they want to say this is not Nigeria again where any matter can be settle?”
Our correspondent later gathered that the matter in question involved that of a pastor of Christ Embassy, Sunday Olise  and two medical doctors, Emmanuel Enabalele and Tunde Omotosho who have been remanded over their alleged involvement in series of abortions carried out on a 16-year old housemaid allegedly impregnated serially by Olise.
They were arrested and detained at the Idimu command pending the conclusion of investigation.
It was at that point the relations attempted to get them out and asked the officers to name their price.
However, their offer was turned down and the suspects were charged to court for the alleged offence under the criminal Code.
They were charged before Ogba Magistrates court with four count charge related to four unlawful abortions after Olise impregnated the orphaned maid of his.
