A woman Police Inspector, Jane Ehiedu, had a nasty experience in Lagos State after she went on the highway to enforce traffic law but was beaten mercilessly and injured in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Shasha Road, Orisunbare area of Lagos, where Inspector Ehiedu went to perform official duty.
While trying to enforce traffic law, she was battered and taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment following the injuries she sustained on her hand and other parts of the body.
One of the suspects, Bashiri Oguntoyibo, has been arrested and charged before the Court for allegedly conspiring with others at large to assault Ehiedu and injuring her in the process.
The Police alleged that on 10th July, 2023, the 40-year old suspect, Oguntoyibo, conspired with others now at large and attacked the victim and other Police officers, who were performing their duty and injured  Inspector Ehiedu.
The other Police officers, who went with her, managed to escape, went back to the Area M Command, Idimu and reported what happened. The Police then mobilized, arrested the suspect, Oguntoyibo and detained him at the Command for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
At the Command, the suspect claimed that they thought the Police officers were there to extort money from motorists by  conducting illegal work on the road before they accosted them.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence of conspiracy and assault.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor,  Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 29th August, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions
