A Police Sergeant attached to Shasha Police Division, one Christopher Udeye, has landed in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos for attempting to effect the arrest of a suspect.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Segun Osho, reportedly grabbed Udeye, battered and used a sharp object to stab him and got him seriously injured before he escaped.
The incident happened at Abati Bus Stop along Shasha Road in Shasha area of Lagos where the victim apprehended the suspect for committing a criminal offence.
It was gathered that instead of Osho to comply and follow him to the police station, he reportedly attacked, stabbed him a sharp object and escaped. The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment while other officers at the police station mobilised, later arrested Osho and detained him at the station.
He was thereafter charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates court for assault and grievous harm.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, informed the court that the defendant attacked and injured him in the course of his duty. The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O.Shomade, granted Osho bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 12th January, 2019.
