After an unforgettable season of twists, turns, and royal turmoil, the final episode of ‘Kabiyesi’, the Showmax Original drama, is now streaming, and the full season is now available to binge-watch.

Set against the backdrop of 16th-century Oyo and inspired by the legendary reign of Orompoto—the only female Alaafin of Oyo—Kabiyesi is a tale of tradition, ambition, and the fight for the soul of a kingdom. It weaves historical fiction with drama, giving viewers a front-row seat to a power struggle like no other.

At the centre of the story is Princess Aderiyife (Annetta Adebusuyi), whose world is turned upside down when tragedy strikes the palace on her wedding day. Her former lover, Adetoro (Olajide Ibitoye), bitter over their cancelled union and blinded by ambition, kills King Adegoke (Akin Lewis) and usurps the throne. But his rule is met with resistance, as the people of Oyo-Ile reject his violent grab for power.

Forced into hiding with her mother, Queen Adelewa (Oluwakemi Oladeojo), Aderiyife seeks refuge with Prince Obabamiji (Amokun Ibrahim), her suitor, before their wedding is disrupted. But their presence in his town of Igboho causes unrest, and they are banished once again. Desperate to reclaim her birthright and avenge her slain father and brother, Aderiyife convinces Obabamiji to train her in the ways of combat and survival.

Just when it seems like Oyo-Ile has found its saviour, a gut-wrenching twist unfolds —Bashorun (Patrick Diabuah), once hailed as the hero for killing Adetoro (Olajide Ibitoye), is unmasked as the mastermind behind the chaos, plotting all along to seize the throne. But just as he stands on the brink of power, fate intervenes with the return of Queen Adelewa and her newborn son, the true heir to the kingdom. Despite Bashorun’s desperate attempts to discredit the child’s lineage, the village priest confirms his legitimacy, prompting the shaken chiefs to abandon Bashorun’s coronation and install Queen Adelewa as regent until the young prince comes of age.

But Bashorun isn’t done yet. In a final act of desperation, he sends an assassin after the infant heir. Though the attempt fails, the message is chillingly clear—the royal family remains in grave danger. Aderiyife acts swiftly, sending her mother and younger brother away into hiding, and boldly steps forward, defying tradition by offering herself as interim ruler. To earn the right, she must face the ultimate test: surviving the legendary Forest of Dreams. Deep within its shadows, she encounters Akanwo, who unveils the full scope of Bashorun’s betrayal and ignites a burning resolve within her to reclaim what was stolen from her family. As Aderiyife prepares to return and challenge the kingdom’s age-old customs, one question looms large: Is Oyo-Ile ready for its first female king?

With stellar performances, heart-racing suspense, and a narrative packed with betrayal, resilience, and redemption, Kabiyesi is a must-watch. Whether you’re a long-time fan or discovering it for the first time, there’s no better time to binge-watch Kabiyesi.

All episodes are now streaming exclusively on Showmax.
