The Honourable Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has commended the Management and Staff of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for their recent demonstrations of professionalism and commitment to restoring and expanding Nigeria’s power infrastructure, in line with their mandate to ensure visible improvement across the electricity value chain.

In a statement made available to the media, Tegbe lauded the management and staff of TCN for the successful energisation of a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja, a development that will significantly expand transmission capacity across the Federal Capital Territory, while equally commending the collaboration between TCN and AEDC in ensuring a rapid and coordinated response to the sudden failure of a 100MVA transformer in the FCT last Friday, which had disrupted electricity supply to parts of the nation’s capital; both organisations mobilised technical resources and worked round the clock to fully restore supply within 24 hours.

The minister described this as a commendable demonstration of inter-agency synergy and excellent, proactive, citizen-centred service delivery championed by the Ministry of Power.

Tegbe also lauded the NDPHC Management under the leadership of its Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, for the successful revival of the 450-Megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State, a critical national asset that had been shut down for three years since 2023.

The plant, developed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), is now positioned to dispatch up to 375 Megawatts to the national grid, providing a significant boost to electricity supply across the South-East region and strengthening overall grid stability.

The Minister wishes to assure all agencies and staff across the power sector that under his leadership, productivity and excellence will be acknowledged and rewarded.

He reaffirmed his commitment to improving Nigeria’s power infrastructure and deployment, urging all sector players to remain focused, innovative, and relentless in the collective mission to deliver electricity to Nigerian homes, businesses, and industries.
