A wave of high-profile commendations has continued to trail President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nomination of Barrister Neya Uzor Kalu as a non-career ambassador, with political leaders, academics, groups and community stakeholders describing the appointment as a boost for youth inclusion, gender balance, and merit-based national service.

In separate statements issued across the country, prominent voices praised the President for what they termed a “clear demonstration of commitment to empowering a new generation of competent Nigerian leaders.”

Professor Adamu Usman, speaking from Kano State, described the appointment as a bold endorsement of youthful leadership. He said President Tinubu had shown commendable resolve in recognising “competence, capacity, and the energy of young Nigerians who are eager to serve their country on the global stage.”

According to him, Neya Kalu represents “a vibrant, intelligent, and fully prepared generation of emerging leaders,” adding that her nomination reflects deliberate efforts by the administration to strengthen gender balance and widen opportunities for young professionals in governance.

He also noted that the President’s earlier appointment of another young Nigerian in the Ministry of Science and Technology reinforces confidence that “a future-oriented leadership structure is being built for the country.”

In a similar reaction, Professor Eni Kalu hailed the appointment as “well deserved,” describing Neya Kalu as a refined professional whose competence and character make her suitable for the role.

Also reacting, legal practitioner and public affairs analyst, Barrister Peter Ndukwe, congratulated the nominee, describing her elevation as “meritorious, expected, encouraged and supported, given her track record as a refined legal mind, captain of industry, philanthropist and leader in the print media sector.”

He thanked President Tinubu for finding her worthy of national service, insisting that she is “a round peg in a round hole—fit and proper for an ambassadorial appointment.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State also issued a statement celebrating the development. Signed by Chief (Hon.) Prince Ulu Onwuchekwa, Chairman of APC Bende LGA, and Chief (Comr.) Igwe Chibuisi Agu, Secretary, the party described the nomination as “well deserved and long anticipated.”

The APC leaders noted that Barr. Neya Kalu has contributed significantly to human capital development in Bende LGA, Abia North, and Abia State at large. They highlighted her regular distribution of textbooks and educational materials to pupils across the district, her philanthropic work, and her leadership role as Chairman of The Sun Publishing Company.

According to the party, her upbringing under Senator Orji Uzor Kalu—former Abia State Governor and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission—has further shaped her discipline, exposure, and leadership capacity.

They expressed confidence that her wisdom, knowledge and experience would stand her out in representing Nigeria on the global stage, while thanking President Tinubu for “looking inward to choose a capable and distinguished ambassadorial nominee whose capacity is unquestionable.”

In Abia North, the Abia North Peace Foundation (ANPF), led by its Director-General, Chief Nnanna Ukaegbu, described the nomination as “a well-considered recognition of capacity, character, and national service.”

The group praised President Tinubu for identifying a competent professional capable of giving Nigeria strong diplomatic representation, noting that Neya Kalu has distinguished herself as a lawyer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and administrator.

According to Chief Ukaegbu, the nomination has brought pride and visibility to Abia North, adding that the Foundation is confident she will excel in her duties once confirmed by the Senate.

He said the ANPF joins other stakeholders in congratulating her, praying for divine guidance and effective stewardship in the service of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Across the country, stakeholders continue to describe the nomination as a milestone for a more inclusive, progressive and youth-driven governance structure, reflecting growing confidence in the capacity of young Nigerians to take on strategic national assignments.
