The Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Prof. Nelson Brambaifa and his management team are set to embark on a tour of the Niger Delta region with the aim of inspecting and commissioning all completed projects undertaken by the Commission. This became necessary as a lot of projects already completed by the Commission are not being put into proper use for the fulfillment of the purpose for which they were initiated and executed in the interest of the people because they have not being commissioned.
The Commission may seem to be slow in meeting up its obligation to Contractors, because there was the need to properly investigate the various stages of compliance with the contractual terms of every projects before payment, and it is because of this need, the Commission under this administration is making payments on thresholds basis (to clear backlogs), payments were begun with the N10Million highest benchmark, increased to N20Million, N30Million and progressed in that manner accordingly. It is also important to add that to make payments, the Administration had to go through the entire proceeds and revalidate the old certificates to ensure they are good enough for payment, though this does not take out the pressing need to clear all outstanding obligations on small payments (mostly the chunks of petty contracts, supplies and youth related jobs.
According to Barrister Igbeta Ayebakuro, SA Media/Publicity to the Ag. MD/CEO, It is good to state that while verifying and paying off outstanding, the Management was also issuing new jobs, to fast track the development of the region in line with the core objectives as set out in the NDDC Act, which are Infrastructural development, human capacity and Security.
Brambaifa hereby assures the people of the region to keep faith with him, and know that every genuine development partner is at constant liberty to approach the Commission via the approved channels, even if just to clear an absurdity, the objective is the same, as we all aspire for a better and safer Niger Delta.
