Prof. Balogun, a retired Professor of Biochemistry from the University of Ilorin, passed away on 8th June, 2026, at the age of 71.
A distinguished scholar and mentor, she made groundbreaking contributions in Biochemical Toxicology and Phytomedicine, with a special focus on antimalarial drug development. Her academic journey spanned decades of teaching, research, and leadership, including roles as Head of Department and Sub-Dean at the University of Ilorin and FUNAAB.
In his condolence message, FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde described her as “an accomplished scholar, devoted Christian, loving mother, and a woman whose life exemplified excellence, humility, and selfless service”.
Her legacy lives on through the countless students and researchers she inspired across Nigeria and beyond. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
