In commemoration of International Women’s Day, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, OFR, founder of United Nigeria Airlines and a leading APC governorship hopeful for Anambra 2025, has lauded women for their invaluable contributions to society. Okonkwo described women as the bedrock of society, emphasizing their pivotal role in fostering strong families, communities, and governance.
Addressing a gathering of women supporters and stakeholders in Awka yesterday, he highlighted the 2025 International Women’s Day theme, “Accelerated Action”, and reiterated his long-standing commitment to the inclusion and empowerment of women and the girl-child.
“Throughout my life and career, I have always championed inclusion, fairness, and equal opportunities for women. A just society cannot be achieved without recognizing and uplifting the contributions of women. They have consistently been at the forefront of nation-building, advocacy, and positive change,” Okonkwo stated.
The governorship hopeful further reaffirmed his dedication to policies that promote women’s economic empowerment, education, and leadership opportunities in both public and private sectors. He emphasized that a society that respects, educates, and empowers women is one that thrives in all aspects.
Okonkwo’s remarks resonate with his broader vision for Anambra State—one that prioritizes equity, inclusion, and sustainable development, ensuring that women and girls have the necessary support to reach their full potential.
As the race for the 2025 Anambra governorship election gains momentum, his message of gender inclusivity and social justice continues to strike a chord with stakeholders and citizens who envision a more progressive and equitable state.
