Three staff of Eko Electricity Distribution Company Ltd, EKEDC, have escaped death following an attack by some residents who allegedly stoned them over attempts to disconnect their electricity supply over accumulated bills in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 29th October, atThomas Asoloko Street, Ilogbo, Ajangbadi Ojo, where the victims, Adeleye Joseph, Oluyede Cyril and Otokan Samuel, all staff of EKEDC went to perform their lawful duty.
One of the suspects behind the attack and a 40-year old man, Izunna James, has been arrested and charged for allegedly attacking and stoning the staff of Eko Electricity Distribution company (EKEDC) over disconnection of electricity supply.
Apart from attempting to mob the victims, their operational vehicle was damaged in the process after the victims managed to escape. But by then, they have sustained injuries in the process.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ilembe Hausa Division. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect while others were said to be at large.
After interrogation, the Police found the suspect culpable and charged him before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
Part of the charges read:
“That you, Izunna James “M”, and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District did conduct yourself in maner likely to cause a breach of the peace by violently threatening the lives of one Adeleye Joseph “M”, Oluyede Cyril “M” and Otokan Samuel “M” all staff of Eko Electricity Distribution Company Ltd, EKEDC, with stones and bottles, thereby causing them to fear and putting their lives in danger and thereby committed an offence putishable under Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ogun, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
