A staff with the Ejigbo District of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Bamidele Akintade was severely beaten by angry residents of 24 Adewale Bello Street, Ejigbo, Lagos when he attempted to disconnect their electricity cables from the poles over unpaid bills.

Akintade, who was performing his official duty, was brutally battered to an unpleasant situation and it took the intervention of the police team who rescued him from the violent residents.

He was rushed to a hospital where he is still receiving treatment.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the area among others in Ejigbo has been plunged into total blackout since last year, yet the DISCO continued to bill them.

When Akintade then came to the area to enforce disconnection on the buildings that owe arrears of bills, the residents resisted and later vent their anger on the electricity worker.

On arrival of the security operatives, most of the residents ran away but one of them suspected to have participated in the assault, Rotimi Amadu was arrested.

He was charged to court with the alleged assault under the Criminal Code.
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 22 February 2017.
