The alleged rape of a nine-year old girl, (name withheld) in front of a monarch’s palace in Badagry, Lagos has thrown the residents into panic over the fate of young girls in the area.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the victim was reportedly raped in the evening right opposite the Baale of Mowo’s Palace despite the retinue of security men within the palace.
The incident threw up a wild protest in the area as P.M.EXPRESS gathered before the police moved in and brought the situation under control.
Following the police investigation, the suspect, a 47-year old Adebayo Isaiah has been arrested and charged before Apapa family court for the alleged sexual assault and was remanded in prison custody.
According to Police, the suspect allegedly held the victim while she was returning home, intimidated her, pulled her pant and penetrated her forcefully.
The act was going on while others suspected to be Palace aides were there watching and did not do anything to protect the victim.
Thereafter the victim was allowed to go, but by then she was bleeding and told her parents what happened to her.
Meanwhile, Isaiah was charged for unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor but he denied and pleaded not guilty.
The matter was initially handled at the Badagry Magistrates court and was transferred to family court before the presiding Magistrate at Court Four Apapa and he also pleaded not guilty.
He was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Isaiah was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 26 June 2017.
