The lawmaker representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Hon. Vincent Ofumelu, has continued in his support for the flooded victims in his immediate local government area, Ayamelum, and to assist in cushioning the effects of the heavy flood that has already submerged parts of Omor, Umerum, Umumbo, Ifite-ogwari, and Umueje areas.
Ofumelu, who had already written to the speaker of the House of Representatives, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for relief materials and urgent assistance and has followed up on the letters, has today informed the people of the area that boats shall be made available for their transportation and all other needs.
He assured them that the boats that were deployed four (4) days ago would now be stationed in the affected areas to transport locals in and out of their homes for free because he had covered all costs until the flood subsides.
The lawmaker decried the threat of floods, which had continued to ravage farm lands, property, and people’s lives, and urged for calm as a long-term solution to the flood’s tragic consequences is devised by the Federal Government through the robust engagements in the National Assembly.
Victims of the flood appreciated his kindness, leadership, and sense of concern for the plight of the people, saying that he had shown leadership where others had all fled from responsibility.
Women, children, and community leaders praised and thanked the Honourable lawmaker for providing an essential mode of transportation and covering all costs completely without the people having to pay a dime.
Hon Ofumelu said it was not time to play politics with the plight of the people, but called for concerned donors to continue providing succor to the victims to ensure that they do not lose hope in this trying moment.
