Retroactive Legislation Or Blatant Deceit? ➖ We Must Hate Appropriately

MAZI EJIMIFOR OPARA

_”That eye is blind, which is unable to see the obvious speck in the reflection of its own image”_ – Anonymous.

When I talked about the Legislature as a classroom of three categories of Students, i did not fully describe some of the common features of the “back benchers” (those students who sit behind in a frenetic scare to be identified or involved in classroom activities), in the believe that most of us who were tutored in formal school settings could deduce the nuances of such students in the personalities of our Legislators. Hon. Bede Eke has once again displayed his level of moroseness with regards to his legislative obligations – a situation similar to that shameful moment when other members of the class had gone on to reciting number 3 on the multiplication table, only for one dullard back bencher to interject with number 1 of the same multiplication table – exposing himself to that nostalgic hysterical laughter from those who know better.

The last update by Hon Bede Eke showing his input to the House of Reps “Votes and Proceedings” publication with regards to the Ulakwo-Ozuzu-Imerienwe-Etche road is rather belated and typical of the actions of a “back bencher” Legislator. The same road that was on the 11th of January 2018 flagged off for construction with Contractors mobilized to site by the Imo State government, not minding its status as a “Federal road”, has been retroactively sneaked into the Gazette of the House by Hon Bede in a deliberate bid to cow ignorant constituents and earn himself some undue “accolades”, when he is yet to pay his dues (Igwe Tupac must hear this).

If the motion and resolve had read, “to urge the NDDC or FG to EXPEDITE ongoing works on the road”, this dubious action would have tapped some goodwill from the reading public. But, for Hon Bede’s motion on the floor of the House to read, *”urge the NDDC to COMMENCE RECONSTRUCTION of the Ulakwo-Imerienwe-Ozuzu-Etche road…”* is to say the least, misleading and a misrepresentation of the facts available. For a road that has undergone preliminary earth works, with the contractors still on site, it becomes out of place to urge the NDDC to _”commence reconstruction”._

Maybe, Hon Bede feels that by tapping into the media attacks on the Imo State APC and indeed the government of the day, he would earn himself some credit. Far from this, he is only validating the claims from popular quarters that he had a stint in some form of “Obtaining By Trick” (OBT) business in his yet to be clarified past. This is true, especially when he does nothing but to wait and usurp the glory of other people’s hard work. This new style of retroactively ascribing to himself the open achievements of the Imo State government and indeed the APC led federal government is another grand deceit from our “guy man” legislator. If there is anybody to pour our hateful vile on, it is our “brother”, who does nothing yet lies to us.

It is true that we are not were we ought to be as a constituency. This is largely because of the quality of individuals that have found their way into the mainstream of leadership. I wonder the next scam Hon Bede Eke will spew on our faces. I wouldn’t be surprised to read him here one day claiming to have moved the motion for the creation of Imo State and Ngor Okpala. Until then, always remember…
