The police at Ayobo Division in Lagos were thoroughly embarrassed after some suspected robbers dislodged them and escaped from custody.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested after they burgled a house, carted away property and tried to escape. While they were escaping, the residents raised alarm; some of the suspects were arrested and detained at the cell.

The suspected robbers were said to have gone to Olamilekan Street in Ayobo area of Lagos and burgled a house before their eventual arrest.
At night, the suspects reportedly used an iron, broke the cell where they were detained and escaped.
The escape shocked the DPO and other officers who immediately began manhunt for the suspects. Their efforts led to the arrest of one of the suspects while others were said to be at large. The suspect, one Lukman Ahmed, 27, was arrested in connection with the cell break.

During interrogation, he refused to disclose the whereabouts of the other suspects now at large. Thus he was charged before Ogba Magistrates court and was remanded in prison custody.
It was learnt that the police were making efforts to arrest the remaining suspects because of the embarrassment it brought to the officers. The residents said that it has shown that the officers were not doing anything in the area except to intimidate and extort from the residents.
Some said that it might be that the officers on duty that day were sleeping and the suspects used the opportunity to escape.
