Dare-devil armed bandits instilled fear and panic in worshippers after they invaded a popular Church in Lagos with guns and other dangerous weapons to rob during service.

However, the prompt Police intervention rescued the ugly situation as the Police officers were able to foil the operation, arrested one of the suspects, recovered arms and their operational motorcycle in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at St Patrick’s Catholic Renewal Church, Ilembe Hausa area of Lagos, where the three armed men stormed to rob worshippers.

This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana. He said that on 31st August, 2019, at about 0620hrs, Ilemba Hausa Police Station received a distress call from St. Patrick’s Catholic Renewal Church, Jakande Open Field, that one motorcycle was sighted conveying three passengers into the camp ground in suspicious manner.
The passengers were said to have mingled with the worshippers, who were attending three days retreat, with the intent to dispossess them of their valuables such as mobile phones, cash etc.

DSP Elkana explained that on the strength of the information, patrol teams were deployed to the scene. The ring leader identified as Wasiu Kamarudeen, 19,  of No. 8 Olaniyi Street, Iyalode Ilogbo, was arrested and one locally made short gun with one live cartridge was recovered from him.  The two other members of the gang managed to escape but their operational motorcycle with registration number OGUN AKM 749 WP was recovered.
DSP Elkana said that the Command’s Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) has launched a manhunt for the remaining two suspects and investigation was ongoing. He said that the case will be charged to Court as soon as investigation is completed.
