Daredevil armed robbers on Monday morning were on rampage on the streets of Fegge in Onitsha, caused mayhem and carted away millions of Naira from businessmen and women who came from various states to buy goods at the various markets in Anambra State.

The incident which happened early in the morning lasted for several hours very close to the police division in the area.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that many residents and visitors who were on their way to the markets and offices were injured and also lost huge sums of money.

Those injured were later taken to hospitals for treatment.

Some of the streets affected in the morning operation were Niger, Ibadan, Okwuenu, Ojukwu and Uga and other adjoining streets in the area.

According to the residents, the robbers stormed the streets from Niger Street and forced some commercial buses conveying business people going to both bridge head and main markets to buy goods.

It was learnt that the men of the underworld shot sporadically and forced the victims to release their valuables.

Those that had little to surrender were brutally attacked and injured, but no life was reportedly lost in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that before the morning attack, the robbers moved round with their motorcycles on the streets disposing residents of their valuables at gun point and escaped.

An eye witness who went to a supermarket at Ojukwu Street narrated his ugly experience.

He said that he and others were in the supermarket when the robbers came, rounded up everybody including the staff and demanded they surrendered their valuables.

The robbers also picked items they needed in the superstore before they escaped.

Another witness narrated how the robbers stormed a beer joint and disposed them of their phones, money and other valuables found with them.

He said they later went to the police, reported the matter and the police claimed that they will investigate.

He however said regrettably nothing have come out of the police investigation.

When our correspondent visited the Fegge Police Division, the police confirmed the incident and said they have commenced investigation.

They assured our reporter that the suspects will soon be arrested and brought to book.

However, some of the residents refused to believe the police and said the police were not interested in the protection of lives and properties but how much they will get from seizing traders goods.
