Some of the suspected armed robbers recently arrested with toy guns by the police have finally opened up why most robbers now use toy guns for operations in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that some of the robbers revealed that they had suffered serious setback after the police decimated their armoury in several hideouts in various areas in the state and recovered the weapons.
This was disclosed by one of the suspects, Mr. Ezekiel Akpan and was supported by other suspects undergoing interrogations at the Police Command.
Mr Akpan said that the robbers had associations and collaborated with criminals in other areas for possible assistance in the areas of weapons, intelligence, manpower and others.
He said that at times they exchanged and hired out arms among themselves, but that these days it was difficult to get arms for operations hence the use of toy guns. He also revealed they had unions and territories; and if any robber was going to a particular area, he will inform their leader for possible assistance which he described as “collabo” meaning collaboration.
P.M.EXPRESS reported that the police had made remarkable success on the arrest of suspected armed robbers with large cache of arms comprising toy guns, charms, knives and others.
However, toy guns took the centre stage as the highest number of arms recovered recently. Many arrests made in areas such as At Ajangbadi, Oshodi, Mile 2, Bariga Mushin, Surulere, Alakuko, Ajah and others, the arms recovered were mainly toy guns, hence P.M.EXPRESS tried to find out from the robbers.
The suspects have been paraded by the police at the State Command by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal.
Some of the suspects arrested with toy guns were Bolaji Folahanmi, Gideon Bamidele, 19, Afeez Anifowoshe, 20 and many others across the state.
The police boss had noted that suspected criminals were now using toy guns with the mindset that if they were arrested, they will face mild charges. He reiterated that any suspect arrested with toy gun had committed armed robbery and will be charged accordingly after the conclusion of investigations.
