The residents of Ojajuni Street in Owode-Orile Mile 12 have been thrown into darkness after robbers burgled their transformer and carted away cables worth over N3m in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that one of the suspects, Zaiyanu Abubakar, was later arrested and charged for conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal Law of the State.
The incident happened on 28th August, 2025, as the suspect and others now at large conspired, stole the items and escaped.
According to the Police, the suspect and others invaded the transformer in the early morning hours, vandalized and carted away the cables before they escaped .
When the residents discovered what happened in the morning, they reported to the Police at Ketu Division. The Police moved into action, eventually arrested the 28-year old Ababukar and detained him at the station for interrogation over the missing cables.
The Police found him culpable after interrogation and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you Zaiyanu Abubakar and others now at large, on the 28th of August, 2025, at about 0400hrs at Ojajuni Street, Owode-Orile Mile 12 in the Ikeja magisterial district, did conspire to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT 2:”That you, Zaiyanu Abubakar and other now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, you did steal armoured cables from a transformer valued three million Naira (N3,000,000), property of Owode-Orile Community CDA and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
