Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, is representing the country at the ongoing Nevsky International Ecological Congress, which opened in Moscow, Russia.
The congress, focused on sustainable development within BRICS member countries and partners, brings together global stakeholders to address pressing environmental issues.
This year’s edition is themed “How Environmental Projects Change the World for the Better,” with discussions centered on innovative solutions for ecological conservation and sustainable development.
The minister said Nigeria’s participation reflects its commitment to international cooperation on environmental sustainability.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Minister Lawal noted that the congress aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises sustainable development, climate resilience, and green economic growth.
“Nigeria is here to reinforce its dedication to environmental protection and to highlight the efforts being made to tackle climate change, promote sustainable practices, and secure a healthier future for its citizens,” Lawal stated.
He added that the congress offers a platform for strengthening Nigeria’s environmental partnerships, fostering innovation, and sharing best practices with global counterparts.
The Nevsky Congress is a key forum for environmental dialogue among governments, private sector actors, and international organisations. It aims to accelerate global action toward a cleaner and more sustainable planet.
