A 21-year old sales agent in Lagos State, Uwaebe Blessing, has been arrested and charged for allegedly duplicating her boss’ shop key and carting away the sum of N600,000 kept inside the shop.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 8th August, 2023, at Ikotun Market, Alimosho area of Lagos, where Blessing was employed as a sales agent by the shop owner, Mrs. Favour Useini.
The Police alleged that the suspect was employed by the shop owner and she duplicated the key without the consent of her boss,  Mrs. Useini.
She was alleged to have secretly opened the shop, stole the money, locked it back and went home without the consent of the complainant.
The next day, when the shop was opened and the money made from sales the previous day was no longer there, the matter was reported to the management of the market. The market management moved into action and information leaked that the suspect, Blessing, came back and opened the shop when the owner had gone home.
The matter was then reported to the Police at Ikotun Division. She was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation and while there, she reportedly admitted to have duplicated the key to the shop.
The Police found her culpable and subsequently charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, when she was arraigned, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K Dosumu-Uthman, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 11th October, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
