The Director General of the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Mrs. Sally Mbanefo, has been asked to step down by the Federal Government and hand over all affairs of the Corporation to the next most Senior officer.
According to report by The Nation newspaper her removal was confirmed in a 27 November letter which was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir David Lawal.
The letter was titled “Notification of de-secondment from the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC).
The letter reads: “I refer to the attached letter, Ref. No. SGF.6/S.23/1/568 of 8th October, 2013 in respect of your secondment from the Keystone Bank Limited to serve as Executive Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) for a period of two years with effect from 6th May 2013.
“You may note from the foregoing that the period of your secondment at the corporation had since lapsed on 5th May 2016.
“Consequently, you are to handover the affairs of the corporation to the most senior officer on or before Wednesday, 30th November, 2016.”
Feisty Sally until now has been described as a cat with many lives. Since her 2013 appointment as the director-general of the nation’s tourism warehouse, she has been mired in one subject of various tales or the other to unhinge her nerves, but she has stayed the course.
In a report by a national newspaper, it was said that when the last administration under which she was appointed got sacked, and everyone thought it’s all over for her; the former top banker still trudged on.
This made people to believe that Mbanefo is a tough nut that does not take chances, as she always ensures that she’s visible to her supervising minister, Alhaji Lai Muhammed. Any major event that Muhammed attends, even if not invited, Mbanefo would find her way there.
