Talent hunter and CEO of the Buruj Sports Academy, Dr. Waheed Salaudeen, has admonished youths to shun thuggery and violence while avoiding being misled into vices.
He reiterated that the nation has suffered a lot of set backs and unrest due to incessant misconduct, lack of vision, failure to uphold the honour and glory of our nation, selfishness, ungodly behaviours, lack of stewardship, absence of patriotism amongst others in the hands of Political Leaders, some Traditional Rulers, the Force and the untoward actions of masses.
He said, “As youths, we occupy a large population figures according to the National Census Board review, and this happens almost across the world. This is enough reason for us to think straight, stay positive and stand up against any act that would jeopardize the greatness course of our country”.
Dr. Waheed Buruj opined that “As a youth, you are enjoined to engage more of your time doing what you love; if you’re a lover of sports build and generate your interest around it”.
“Good and bad act begins with determination; as youths we need to be determined not to be instruments for injustice.”
“Thuggery is an act of violence or behaviour by ruffians often hired or instigated by politicians to intimidate their opponents or the masses. It is the intentional use of physical force threatened against another person, a group or community that either results in injury, death, psychological harm or deprivation within a political circle.”
Ask yourself, what will I benefit from this cause? Is it the stipends you receive as compensation or the fact that your actions are against the growth and development of your country due to your selfish act?”
“It can be understood that the situation and economic state of the nation is not friendly and alluring. But your actions determine if the phrase “Naija go better” can actually be rephrase as “Naija don dey better”. As youths, we hide under some major reasons for being violent. i. Corruptionii. Unemploymentiii. Lack of adequate securityiv. Lack of democratic culturev. Failure of the justice system
“Being a political thug is a serious threat to democratic consolidation and scares credible candidates, including women from active participation in democratic processes. Political violence encourages militarization of the political space with the consequent proliferation of arms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons purposely for acts of criminality, including thuggery.”
“This in turn, has resulted in many unresolved politically motivated assassinations across the country, fall in economic values, which diminishes the country’s evolving democratic culture due to bad system of government imposed.”
“The society is not convenient with the attitude and act of thuggery, miscreants looting and setting the nations heritage buildings ablaze most especially when there is a call for reconstruction in Nigeria.”
“You are the leaders of tomorrow…yet you choose to serve as an instrument of destruction and evil. Which is why the “Tomorrow” never surfaced and the same circle of leaders are governing us over and over again.”
“Take up a career path and carefully build and develop yourself in that part. Make good use of your youthful age, make positive impact that the coming generation and the older generations will be proud of” Dr. Waheed advised.
