The parents of a 17-year old student, who was allegedly defiled and impregnated by her teacher seem to be in dilemma on what to do with the pregnancy having realized that it was the product of statutory rape.

Meanwhile, the 26-year old school teacher, Sunday Ajibola, has been arrested for alleged defilement of the student inside the classroom during lesson within the school premises in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Advance College Academy, located at Allilane Street, off Aladeola, Ketu area of Lagos.

According toPolice sources, the student had registered in the school for lessons in preparation for examination but unknown to her parents, between July and August 2021, when she was attending the purported school lessons, she was sleeping with Ajibola in the classroom.

The teacher was said to have forcefully engaged her in sex romp for the period and warned her not to tell her parents what they were doing and she kept it to herself.

However, the whole got exposed when she eventually became pregnant and she was asked to know who was responsible, she then mentioned the teacher, Ajibola.

The matter was reported to the Police at Ketu Division; Ajibola was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation. There, he admitted that he was sleeping with her after the lessons but did not know she will become pregnant.

Having been found culpable, the Police charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement, which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before Court.

The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Mr. Victor Eruada, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri, town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice while directing the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP.

Meanwhile, the matter was adjourned till 10th December, 2021, for report of the DPP’s advice to be ready, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
