Security Man, 39, Docked For Stealing School Property He Was Employed To Guard

A 39-year old security man with Strong Shield Security Nigeria Limited, Goodness Okon, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing school property worth over N1m where he was employed to guard. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened Alpha Rehoboth College,  Orisunbare area of Lagos.

 

According to the Police, the security man broke into the school office when the school premises was locked and stole some items including projectors, DVD player, TV set, students plastic tables, ceiling fans, standing fan, sewing machines among others.

 

He escaped after stealing the items, went into hiding and disconnected every communication he had with the school management and the company that brought him.

 

The matter was reported to the Police at Area M Command, Idimu. The Police operatives moved into action, arrested and detained him at the Command for interrogation over the missing items.

 

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

The charge read:

“That you, Goodness Okon ‘M’ of Strong Shield Security Nigeria Limited. on the 6th of December, 2023 at about thirty minutes after seven o’clock in the morning at Alpha Rehoboth College, Orisunbare Lagos, in the Lagos magisterial district, did steal three projectors valued N22,000.00k each, one 14 inches television valued N40,000:00k, one DVD player valued N32,0000:00k, two celling fan valued N35,000:00k each, one giant Ox standing fan valued N48,000:00k, thirty students plastic tables valued N25,000:00k each, one head of butterfly sewing machine valued N53,000:00k and one generator battery valued N18,000:00k total value one million, thirty thousand Naira, being property of one Monehin Oluwarotimi ‘F’ who was your employer and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 (7) of the criminal Law of Lagos 2015.”

 

He pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 19th November, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
