A joint security operation has rescued a woman and her two-year-old son who were allegedly kidnapped and held in a forest in Bode Sadu, Kwara State.
The operation was led by ASP Ajegoke Amos of the FID-IRT, in collaboration with Chief Adeyemo Sunday, popularly known as Igboho.
It commenced on July 1, 2026 and targeted a group suspected of operating from a forest hideout in the area.
How the rescue unfolded
On Friday, July 3, 2026, operatives made contact with the suspected kidnappers and arranged for ransom collection.
According to officials, the suspects became suspicious on sighting the security team and opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
Several of the suspects reportedly sustained gunshot wounds and fled deeper into the forest.
The security team pursued and combed the area.
During the search, operatives said they heard cries for help and traced the sound to where the woman and her child were being held.
The victims were rescued unharmed and evacuated from the forest. They are currently receiving medical treatment at Igboho General Hospital.
Ongoing efforts against kidnapping
Authorities described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal hideouts and protect residents in Kwara State.
Security agencies said they remain committed to working with local collaborators to address kidnapping and related crimes.
Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
