Senator Abiru Calls On Privileged Muslims To Pay Zakat And Sadaqat For Upliftment of Less Privileged Muslims

The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, has called on privileged Muslims to be committed to the payment of Zakat and Sadaqat for the upliftment of less privileged Muslims, and other worthy causes as instructed by Almighty Allah.

Abiru, the Ekeerin Adinni of Ikorodu division, declared this on Saturday in Lagos as the Chairman of the Ibile Muslims Community Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation Ramadan Lecture .

He said, “In a world where inequalities persist and many people struggles to meet their basic needs, an act of kindness and charity serves as beacon of hope. Among the most powerful and transformative acts in Islam are Zakat and Sadaqat. They are pillars of generosity that not only uplift the recipients and the givers, but society at large.

“Zakat is an obligatory form of charity in Islam, requiring Muslims who meet a particular financial threshold to contribute 2.5 percent of his wealth to those in need. It is not only a financial obligation but purification of wealth. In other words, we must find a way of spreading wealth in equitable manner”.

The lawmaker commended the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, under the leadership of Shaykh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, The Grand Chief Imam of Lagos, for its transparency and strict processes instituted to ensure integrity of the scheme which has boosted the confidence of Zakak and Sadaqat donors.

In their respective remarks, the BOT Chairman of Foundation, Shaykh Abou-Nolla, the Grand Mufti of Ilorin Emirate, Shaykh Dr. Sulaimon Faruq Onikijipa, OON, who was the Guest Speaker, and the Grand Chief Imam of Epe, Fadheelat Shaykh Imam Sadallah Abiola AbdulRahman Aliru, commended Senator Abiru for his fervent commitment for causes of Almighty Allah, particularly to the Ibile Muslims Community Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation.

Grand Chief Imam of Epe, further alluded to the ongoing Ramadan Lecture Series across the Lagos East Senatorial District, which the Senator sponsored for the spiritual upliftment of Muslim Ummah during the holy month of Ramadan.

Dignitaries at the event include the representatives of the Oba of Lagos, Oba HRM, Rilwan Akiolu; Deputy Governor of Lagos State, represented by Hon. Nurudeen Yekini Agbaje; Mr. Tunde Folawiyo; Alhaja Muheenah Shopeyin, the Iya Sunnah of Lagos; Hon. Abdulateef Rotimi Abiru; Alhaja Fatimah Oyefeso, Sheikh Imam Seifudeen Ademoritan Olowooribi, the Grand Chief Imam of Ikorodu; and other top Islamic Clerics, amongst others.
