Senator Adeola Commends Govs Sanwo-Olu, Abiodun On Joint Commission

The Chairman of Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Solomon Adeola, (APC, Lagos West), has commended the duo of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State and Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, for the establishment of Lagos-Ogun Joint Development Commission(LOJDC) saying the Commission was long overdue for the development of not only Lagos and Ogun State but the whole Nigeria.

The two Governors, in a well-attended historic ceremony at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta yesterday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) for collaboration in development of the two contiguous states in the South West geo-political zone particularly among their various borderline communities. 

“Yesterday was a historic day in the history of both Lagos and Ogun State. In time past there has been unstructured, episodic and fitful partnerships on issues between the two states but the need to concretize this in a structure to continuously work for the interest of both states in a holistic manner has not materialized till yesterday. I am happy that the two progressive governors have now jointly taken the right and needed step. I commend them for their boldness and rise above pettiness for this feat” Senator Adeola stated. 

The Senate Committee Chairman, who recently led four ranking Senators to join the Governor of Ogun State in turning the sod  for the reconstruction of the Atan-Lusada- Agbara Road linking Lagos and Ogun State and traversing the important Agbara Industrial Estate, said with the two states sharing common boundaries for the long stretch beginning from their coastal link at Edo State right across major human settlements to the international boundary at Badagry, it is myopic for them to continue developmental efforts without concrete collaboration and synergy for mutual benefits of the people and holistic development adding that with Lagos State already declared a mega city based on its population, spillover of people across both states, particularly towards Ogun state,  must be well managed in terms of needed infrastructure and socio-economic development.  

“I am not in doubt at all that the Lagos -Ogun Joint Development Commission will accelerate the development of the two prominent states of Nigeria with all ethnic groups of Nigeria residing in large numbers in them benefitting alongside indigenes of the two states. I urge other contiguous states to form alliances like this to pool resources for mutual development and benefits for the people” Senator Adeola stated.
