The All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate for Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as “YAYI”, has facilitated the construction of 60 new boreholes to provide portable water for communities across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The projects, driven by communal requests and prioritized based on urgent need and population, are already ongoing and at various stages of completion.

According to the Senator, contractors have been fully mobilized and work is progressing on site assessment, drilling, casing, pump installation and testing.

“I am happy to announce that in the next few days some of our people in communities in need of portable water across our senatorial districts will start enjoying the commodity,” Senator Adeola stated.

“The projects were facilitated based on requests to my office and prioritized on the basis of urgent need and expected number of beneficiaries. They complement the major water works of the administration of our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.”

He urged handlers of the project to deliver on schedule to ensure communities begin to benefit immediately.

The 60 boreholes are distributed as follows:
– Ogun West: 21 boreholes
– Ogun Central: 20 boreholes
– Ogun East: 19 boreholes

Yewa South, Abeokuta North and Ado-Odo/Ota LGAs have the highest allocation with 7 and 5 boreholes respectively. All other LGAs are also benefiting in varying numbers.

Some of the communities and townships earmarked to benefit include: Obasanjo Hill Top, Alubarika Bode Olude Opeji, Omida Community, Moriwi Community, Pahayi Police Station Ilaro, Ijado and Ijako Townships, Owode Obafe Township, Ogijo Market, Igbore Community Ikenne, Odo Alere Quarters Ososa, Ibiade Community, and Imakun Community, among others.

Senator Adeola said each borehole will be powered by the requisite generator to ensure maximum efficiency and ease of management.

“My hope is that not only will the projects be useful for domestic and other economic purposes, but they will also complement programmes for preventive healthcare for our people,” he added.

This is not the first time the Senator is facilitating water projects in Ogun State. He has previously completed and delivered similar borehole projects in ultra-modern markets, schools, primary healthcare centres and other public facilities across the state.

The new intervention is expected to ease the burden of water scarcity for thousands of residents ahead of the dry season.
