83 Traditional rulers in Ogun West Senatorial District were trained on Information Communication Technology, ICT, in order to address various security challenges confronting the area by the Senator representing Ogun West.
Declaring the training open, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Solomon Adeola explained that the training became necessary in view of the rising security challenge in the country, especially in Yewa zone.
Senator Adeola who was represented by the former Commissioner for Forestry, Alhaji Ali Ajibode said the training was to equip the traditional rulers towards fighting kidnapping and other security challenges in their domains.
In his remark, the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle who identified unemployment and poverty as some of the factors responsible for the insecurity appealed to governments at all levels to intensify efforts towards addressing the problem.
Describing the training facilitated by the senator representing Ogun West at the National Assembly as welcome development, Oba Olugbenle also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for various policies aimed at tackling insecurity in the country.
Also, the Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege said the training of traditional rulers would go a long way to improve the competent level of the royal fathers on information Communication technology as well as enhance their communication skills.
He said, “I think for the first-time in Ogun west, I will say we get it right because I’ve never seen any of our representatives going extra mile to look for our ICT competency. This is another level. Nowadays when you go to palaces hardly will you see laptop to aid our communication.
“For senator Adeola to think about that, I think we should really thank him. When you look at Ogun West, we are still at the bottom line. Don’t let us betray Ogun West.
“I’m appealing to us, don’t let us betray Ogun West.
“It is a mark of a new beginning in Ogun west. We thank God for raising Yayi for us. I want to urge our Kabiyesi to take this training seriously and replicate the knowledge.”
In a lecture titled, “Security Challenges In Nigeria
Ogun State In Perspective:
Causes, Effects And Panacea”, a security expert from the Republic of Ireland, Mr. Adekunle Ilori underscored the importance of the deployment of various ICT gadgets at the disposal to protect them against security threats.
Mr. Ilori, who commended Senator Adeola for putting up the training, appealed the senator to sustain the initiative towards the fight against insecurity.
The high point of the event was the presentation of laptops, tablets and other gadgets to the 83 traditional rulers in Ogun West Senatorial district of the state.
