The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Andy Uba has described the news of the demise of a former Biafran leader as well as Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Colonel Joe Achuzia as painful and a blow to the Igbo nation and Nigeria.
Uba made this known in a press statement released by his media office. Senator Uba described Achuzia as an elder Statesman and a selfless leader who laid down his life for the survival of the Igbo nation.
The statement read, “I received with grief the news of the demise of one of the civil war’s finest soldiers, Colonel Air Raid Joe Achuzia, fondly called the Hannibal of Biafra. The news was largely a sad one and I immediately suspended work to mourn and reach out to members of his family and friends.
Achuzia was indeed a great man; he was an elder Statesman who longed for a nation where equity, justice and fairness prevailed. As Secretary General of the Pan Igbo group, Achuzia served most nobly bringing his experience and wisdom to prevail on a number of burning issues that engulfed our country then.
Let me therefore use this medium to pay tribute to this great man as well as mourn his passing, the nation truly has lost a statesman.”
