Senator Tejuoso Hosts Egba Dialect Debate & Choral Competition, Empowers Constituents

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Health and representative of Ogun Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, Senator Dr. Lanre Tejuoso, on Fridays hosted the 3rd edition of the Annual Egba Dialect Debate & Choral Competition and at the same time empowered some members of his constituency.

The preliminaries of the annual event, meant for the secondary schools within the senatorial district, had earlier taken place in the six local government areas in Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The venue of the grand finale, the event hall of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday 21st June, 2019, witnessed a deluge of dignitaries and constituents; traditional rulers in Ogun Central, friends of the host, Senator Dr. Lanre Tejuoso, parents, teachers, students and constituents from the six local government areas of Ogun Central Senatorial District graced the occasion.

At the end of the Egba Dialect debate, Oba Community Comprehensive High School, Ọba, emerged as the winner with cash price of N150,000.
The second position went to Abeokuta Girls Grammar School, Onikolobo, Abeokuta, with cash price of N100,000 while the third price was given to Orile-Iporo Community High School, Odeda, with cash price of N75,000.

In the Choral competition category, Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Obantoko, Abeokuta, came first and received a cash price of N150,000 while Aderenle High School, Ifo, won the second position with a cash price of N100,000 and Asero High School, Asero, Abeokuta, emerged third with a cash price of N75,000.

The event was also used to empower 17 members of Senator Tejuoso’s constituency with BAJAJ Tricycles (Keke NAPEP), amongst them were three South Southerners and two Northerners, who have been living and plying their legitimate trades in Ogun Central for over 25years in Abeokuta.
The occasion also witnessed the sharing of hundreds of Multipurpose Solar Powered Lamps amongst Baales (Village Heads) for onward distribution in their villages.

The grand finale was indeed grand with pomp, pageantry and side attractions.

In a chat with P.M.EXPRESS after the event, the host, Senator Dr. Lanre Tejuoso, said that the noble initiative, which is targeted at young people within his constituency, is geared towards making them to embrace the Egba culture and dialect. According to the accomplished medical practitioner, who is also a Prince of the Oke-Ona Egba stock, promoting culture through the annual debate and choral competition is his own way to help preserve the Egba heritage. He also assured members of his constituency that the empowerment drive will continue and more people are set to benefit in the coming days.
