CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 40-year old single lady, Linda Mabi-Praise has been arrested for fraud after she swindled a man, Mr. Damilare Muritala to the tune of N10m in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at County Home at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, where the suspect claimed that she had a property.
It was gathered that the lady approached the victim and told him that she had a house she wanted to sell as she wanted to relocate and settle down abroad. They reportedly bargained for an amount and the victim paid her the money.
However, after the lady had received the money she bolted away and the victim did not set his eyes on her again after some months.
The matter was then reported to the police who trailed and eventually arrested her in her hideout. She admitted that she actually collected the money and promised to refund it as she was no longer selling the house. She then issued two bank cheques with serial number, 77148223 and 77148224 of UBA PLC.
However, when the victim went to the bank to withdraw the money, the bank officials declined and explained that she did not have such amount of money in her account.
She was charged before the Ikeja Magistrates court for obtaining under the false pretence and stealing.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Promise Olatunji did not oppose the bail application by her counsel.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O Aje-Afunwa granted the suspect bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 9 July, 2018.
