Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has flagged-off construction of the 10.95 kilometer Igboukwu-Ikenga-Ezinifite-Ekwulobia Road.

Performing the function, Governor Soludo emphasized that the visit is in partial fulfilment of the promise he made.

Soludo said, “we have come so the construction work will officially kick off”.

“Road construction is the number one problem in Anambra followed by environmental challenges and flood menace that have already devoured over 7 Local government areas in the State.”

“Road construction is very critical and that is why we have declared a state of emergency on Anambra roads.”

“From Nkwo I drove down here and have seen the sufferings the people are passing through when they go to Eke from here.

“We have come to ease the suffering of the people. We are building roads and must ensure we touch every local government in the state.”

“Ikenga cannot boast of one square foot of tarred road. In the spirit of APGA, we are remembering all the communities that have been forgotten, leaving nobody behind.”

“We are being our brothers’ keeper and that’s why a community that has never seen a 1km tarred road is being remembered today.

“All these roads we are flagging off in the state, we are paying 50% upfront for all of them.

“This particular road, on or before 12 months, shall be completed.

“Anytime the contractors complete the roads, they shall be fully paid and none shall be owed”, Governor Soludo assured.

The Governor also called on the people to reciprocate the good gesture by supporting the party at all levels.

The Commissioner for Works, Engr Ifeanyi Okoma, said that the Governor is determined to build the road with an expected duration of 12 months and a guarantee of 20 years.

The Contractor, Mr Elias Thanos of AG Vision Construction Company, said they are committed to build the roads with drainage and Asphalt which would last more than 20 years and assured that the road will be motorable by next year’s Christmas.

In his brief remark on behalf of the entire people of the area, the Transition Committee Chairman for Aguata, Prince Oforbuike, commended Governor Soludo for remembering Ikenga, one of the 14 communities in Aguata that have no tarred road.

He thanked the Governor for wiping their tears and easing their pains by remembering to fix the road, noting that the road will be of immense benefit to the people of Aguata.
