The era of abandonment and neglect for workers’ welfare in Anambra has officially ended. Under Governor Soludo, significant strides have been made to address long-standing issues related to workers’ welfare. Notably, Soludo has distinguished himself as the first governor in the history of Anambra State to implement a new minimum wage.

In January of last year, Soludo took a bold step by implementing a 10% salary increase for all levels of state workers and pensioners. He cares deeply for the welfare of those dedicated to serving the state. Furthermore, from September through December of the same year, he initiated a non-taxable cash award of N12,000 for state workers and pensioners. This four-month allowance not only provided immediate financial relief but also served as a robust acknowledgment of the diligent efforts of state workers.

As a Governor committed to the well-being of workers, including the 8,115 new teachers and 3,300 other workers employed since he took office just 30 months ago, he implemented a minimum wage policy that guarantees a “net pay” of N70,000. This amount exceeds federal government standards. The term “N70,000 net pay” means that the lowest-paid worker in Anambra will receive at least N70,000 at the end of each month after all deductions, including taxes, union dues, contributions to the pension scheme, and health insurance. Consequently, the gross salary could range from N78,000 to N84,000.

In addition to his compassionate governance style, he has also addressed the challenges faced by state pensioners by approving a monthly non-taxable cash award of N10,000 to supplement their pensions. Soludo’s selflessness and empathy have earned him the admiration of Ndi Anambra. His dedication to the welfare of both workers and pensioners has led to his recognition as the most labor-friendly governor, a title he cherishes. In Anambra, we proudly say, “Solution is here.”
