The Knights of St Mulumba at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Ejigbo, Lagos has debunked the story that it was their member that secretly married a second wife after he hid the first wife in his village in Southeast.
P.M.EXPRESS had reported incident and in reaction to the publication, the secretary of the group, Mr. Anthony C Ugwu under the Idumu subordinate council, stated that the name referred to was never a member of the Knights of St Mulumba at St Peters Catholic church, Ejigbo and that the group had never witnessed any death of its member since the creation of St Peter’s parish, Ejigbo, Lagos.
In a letter dated 23 March, 2018, the group claimed that the report exposed the Order of knight of St Mulumba to scandal, ridicule and falsely portrayed it as a haven for bigamists.
“The order of St Mulumba rejects this report as false, fabricated and malicious intended to damage the reputation of and to incite public opinion against the Catholic order.”
They condemned the report as it affected the knights of St Mulumba and stated that the reporter should have used all lines of communication to get in touch with the Order or the Catholic priest to verify the story before publication. They also demanded for retraction and apology.
However, the story published by P.M.EXPRESS still stands that one Chief Odogwu (other names withheld) actually married his first wife, kept her and the children in his village, came to Lagos and married another wife without informing the church before he became a knight.
The whole matter was exposed after he died, his children and the wives started fighting over his properties before their town people resolved it and shared the property between the wives and children.
P.M.EXPRESS learnt that it was not only St Mulumba knights that exist at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Ejigbo, there are also the knights of St John.
