A staff of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Samuel Shamkas has been arrested by the State Criminal Intelligent and Investigation, SCIID, for allegedly setting one of the offices at the airport on fire and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
He was charged before a Lagos court for the alleged arson and was remanded in prison custody.
The incident happened at the electronic section office of the department of the Corporate Affairs Department at the Lagos Airport.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered from police sources that vital documents and properties belonging to Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria were burnt and destroyed by the fire incident.
The motive behind the arson was not known, but police sources said there was the possibility of sabotage.
The 34-year old suspect was alleged to have plugged a camera battery that bursted and burnt the office completely.
Following the incident, Shamkas was apprehended by the management and handed over to the police who had investigated the fire incident and found him culpable.
However, P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the suspect had insisted and maintained his innocence and said that what happened was an accident.
He was charged before Ogba Magistrates court for recklessness and negligence under the Criminal Code.
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs F. Dan-Oni granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
