Pastor Nnaemeka Udenwagu of the Dominion City Church, Okota branch, Lagos has raised alarm over the high rate of domestic violence against men and warned women to desist from the new trend of beating their husbands in their various homes.
Udenwagu gave the advice at the church during the solemnization of holy matrimony between a couple, Mr and Mrs Samuel Eze at the weekend.
The bride was formerly Miss Chiemerie Ezeobi, who is a correspondent with This Day Newspaper.
Abia State-born Udenwagu noted that unlike before, it is the husbands that receive beatings from their wives and warned if it continue, men might consider running away from their homes which will be the end of such marriages.
Udenwagu said the dangerous trend was caused by western education on the right of women which we have copied in Nigeria and the women are exploiting that to bully their husbands.
“I am aware of the high rate of husbands battering and many of the victims feel ashamed to speak up and they are dying in silence in their various homes,” he said.
He advised women to bear it in mind that God made men the head of the family and the women should be submissive and be supportive for peace to rain in the family despite such women status in the society.
Udenwagu noted that there are crises in some marriages owing to the fact the couple failed to understand each other and communicate effectively.
He said three things have contributed to the crises which include sex, money and in-laws influence in the marriages.
He said couple should work together and ensure that they don’t bring third party between them and be patient for peaceful marriage.
He also advised families to take it easy despite the situation, adding, what was needed was for the couple to bring their experience, ideas and resources together and plan for a successful union.
The event attracted various personalities from the Army, Defence, Navy, Police and other sectors of the economy who attended to witness the union at the church.
