The Super Eagles Supporters Club has congratulated the Nigerian senior men’s football team, the Super Eagles for topping their group after the last game of the African Cup of Nations 2019 qualifiers.

In a release signed by the National President of the Super Eagles Supporters Club, Vincent Okumagba, they noted that the Super Eagles overcame the initial pitfall occasioned by the 0-2 loss to South Africa in their first qualification match at Uyo in 2017. They praised the contributions of the Super Eagles’ technical crew, players and officials for regaining the momentum and restoring Nigeria’s dominance in African football. “That Super Eagles qualified for the 2019 AFCON with a game to spare even after losing the first game is a good testimony of the determination of the team and their officials”, Okumagba noted.

They equally appreciated the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation and the Sports Ministry for giving the team the needed support and
encouragement even when things were looking down. “We are happy that the Ministry and the NFF provided all the team needed on the journey to this qualification and the boys in turn reciprocated. The Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung and NFF President Amaju Pinnick and his board desire accolades for the support given to the Super Eagles. It was evident that the Nigerian football fraternity was focused that the team must be in Egypt ”.

The leader of the supporters’ group also called for a proper, early and complete preparation for the team towards the upcoming AFCON with the hope that the trophy once again returns to Nigeria after the late Stephen Keshi tutored squad won it for the country in 2013 when hosted by South Africa. Okumagba assured that the Super Eagles Supporters Club will as always go to any part of the world to back up the team and see them excel. He added that the team is already making plans to be in Egypt later in the year to cheer the Super Eagles to victory.

The Super Eagles topped the Group E of the AFCON qualifiers after beating Seychelles by 3 goals to 1 in their last game played at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba, Delta State. Other countries in the group are South Africa, and Libya.
