Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) has expressed its sadness over the death of former Super Eagles player and Beijing 2008 Olympics silver medalist, Isaac Promise, who died Wednesday, in USA, aged 31.

The National Chairman of the NFSC, Rev. Samuel Ikpea, described the news as shocking and sad.

“This recent spate of deaths happening in our sports sector, particularly, football, is indeed, worrisome and sad. The death of Isaac Promise is a rude shock because that was a vibrant young man that had served this country meritoriously at several championship,” he lamented.

He recalled with fond nostalgia how the Austin Bold FC star, who also plied his trade in Turkey with Genclerbirligi and Trabzonspor led the Flying Eagles in 2005 to a memorable second position at the U-20 world cup played in Holland.

” We shall greatly miss this patriotic young Nigerian footballer. And on behalf of the members of Nigeria football supporters club, home and in diaspora, I pray that God in His infinite mercies grant his family and friends, as well as, the NFF, the strength and fortitude to bear this huge loss,” he stated in an emotion laden tone.

American side Austin Bold confirmed Promise passed away on Wednesday evening but didn’t reveal the cause of his death.

Promise captained Nigeria at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and led his country to a silver medal after losing to Argentina in the final to Angel Di Maria’s goal.

He was captain of the Nigeria side that won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics after losing to Argentina in the final.
