Surulere Local Government has emerged as the overall winner of this year’s Fans For Fun (FFF) Under 17 Unity Cup Football tournament held in Lagos.

At the grand finale of the tournament played on Sunday, June 28, Surulere LG defeated Ifelodun Local Council Development Area 1-0 in the keenly contested final held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

Earlier in the day, Bariga Local Government had defeated Igando Ikotun Local Council Development Area 3-0 to win the third-place match at the same venue.

A total of 10 teams from the Local Government Areas and the Local Council Development Areas participated at the tournament which kicked off on June 8, 2026.

Akinwunmi Mubarak of Igando Ikotun LCDA emerged as the Best Goalkeeper while Usaman Maleek of Ifelodun LCDA emerged as the Best Player of the tournament. The Fair Play trophy went to Igando Ikotun LCDA.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the tournament, Mr. Olatunbosun Akande heaped praises on the standard of play by the players and also thumbs up the officials of the matches.

He said: “From what we saw of the matches, there is a major improvement from the last edition of the tournament. The standard of play was very high and the players lived up to expectations.

“We will just need to improve on the next edition of the tournament,” he said while commending the fans that also trooped out to watch the third place and final match.

Olatunbosun Akande added that 18 players from the tournament have been picked and as promised the players will tour Liverpool FC for exposure.

Among the diginatries that witnessed the grand finale are ex-internationals Tajudeen Disu and Taiwo Oloyede. Also at the final were Hon. Desmond Elliot; Hon. Ajani Owolabi – Member Lagos State House of Assembly; Mayor Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo – the Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA); Hon. Sulaiman Yusuf Bamidele (Executive Chairman -Surulere LGA and his Vice Chairman; Lekan Fatodu (Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission – LSSC); Somolu Local Government Vice Chairman, Snr. Comrade (Dr.) Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya – Executive Chairman Igando Ikotun LCDA; Hon. Raimi Olasunkanmi Rolag; Special Adviser on Sports – Igando Ikotun LCDA – Hon. Tajudeen Ayodele Olorunfemi among others.

The spectators, players and officials were thrilled with live performance by Durella.
